Marty’s Local is a mission-driven food hub / local and regional foods distributor based in western Massachusetts. We are working to create an alternative to the industrial food system by strengthening and facilitating the links between nearby, high-quality farmers and food producers and regional food purchasers including colleges, grocery stores, and restaurants. Many people in our area grow, raise, and produce a tremendous variety of excellent foods, and Marty’s Local aims to make these foods more accessible to all of us.
Marty’s Local seeks a 2019 summer intern to assist in all aspects of our small and growing business. The job will include a wide array of projects and tasks, such as business strategy, pick-ups from farms and deliveries to customers, customer outreach, inventory and order management, and developing and implementing systems to increase profitability and efficiency. There will be regular opportunities to work with area farmers and to witness firsthand how our existing food system operates.
The position will be tailored to build on the strengths of the student and to enable the student to explore areas of interest whenever possible. Candidates must be able to lift 50 lbs., have access to a car or consistent transportation, and have a willingness to handle a diverse range of tasks. The ideal candidate will be self-directed, independent-minded, and have a good sense of humor.
Our intern will be paid $12/hour, and there may be some variability in schedule from week to week. Position will be based in Pittsfield, MA or North Adams, MA.
Please submit your resume and cover letter, describing why you would be an excellent candidate, to Sandra Thomas (firstname.lastname@example.org) by Wednesday, February 13. Interviews will be held between February 20-March 6, 2019.
